About Tour

Travel in Mexico’s most iconic car, the VW Beetle (or an Audi) to visit three different cenotes just inland from the Caribbean coast. With over 7,000 registered cenotes across the peninsula each offers something different. During our tour you will visit an underground cenote through which you will have a guided snorkelling tour with lamps to illuminate the stalagmite and stalactite formations above and below the water, a cenote which has four separate different areas and a final cenote at which you can zipline into the water or jump off platforms of varying heights. Lunch will be taken at a local Mayan family’s street side quesadilla and sope stand, praised by all our guests who have visited as the unexpectedly best and most authentic food they have eaten on their vacation.

What’s not included

No exclusions

  • Pick-up can be at any address in Cancun, Puerto Morelos or Playa del Carmen. If staying in a hotel with a security gate, please advise Señor Travel Bug in advance of your room number which will be required to gain access and pick you up.

  • Enjoy a 60-90 minute guided snorkelling tour through an underground cenote, part of the second largest underground water system in the world. Illuminated only by the torches we will carry, the cenote has many ancient stalactite and stalagmite formations, 65 million year old fossils, was the site where remains of an ancient Mayan were found and home to a population of bats, freshwater turtles and fish.

  • Split your time across four quite different cenotes within Cenote Cristalino. (1) Dangle your legs into a cenote and enjoy the free ‘pescicure' as the fish nibble at the skin on your feet and legs. (2) Float in a peaceful open cenote in the jungle (3) Swim through a partially closed cenote, under its roof and marvelling at the formations above and below the water level. (4) Swim in an open cenote, into which you can lower yourself, or jump from a cliff at a height of about 3 metres (10 feet).

  • Watch a local Mayan family make tortillas with their fingertips in the Yucatan style, and then serve you extraordinary chicken, steak or vegetarian quesadillas, together with fresh fruit drinks, flavours determined by what’s in season.

  • Visit two cenotes at Sol y Luna, either to float around serenely together with the locally resident fish, or to jump and/or zipline into the larger open cenote in the jungle.

  • The tour will deliver you back to your pick-up point (or any other destination in Cancun, Puerto Morelos or Playa del Carmen if preferred)
