Izamal

Our favourite of Mexico’s pueblos magicos (magic towns), in Yucatan state. The whole town was painted a single shade of yellow for the visit of Pope John Paul II in 1993. The town was built on and around several Mayan pyramids, and its monastery boasts the largest Christian courtyard outside Europe.
